12/04/2008 - Sunderland, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Roy Keane sensationally resigned as Sunderland manager on Thursday after a little over two years in charge of the Black Cats.
The 37-year-old Irishman had cast doubts over his future on Wearside in recent times, with his side having suffered a dismal run of results that has left them down in the Premier League drop zone.
Keane had commented after the 4-1 home defeat by Bolton Wanderers last weekend: "I ask myself every single day if I am the right man for Sunderland. I asked myself this morning and I said that I was.
"Tomorrow morning, if the answer's no, we'll have to look at it.
"I have to be honest in my assessment. It's not about what's best for Roy Keane. It's Sunderland Football Club.
"I might wake up on Monday morning and think I'm the right man. On Tuesday it might be different.
"I'm the manager of this football club and ultimately I'm responsible and I've never shied away from that."
Sunderland have lost five of its last six Premier League games to plunge into the bottom three, leaving Keane to make his exit.
He had been handed major transfer funds to bolster his squad in the summer, bringing in the likes of El-Hadji Diouf, Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda, Teemu Tainio and Anton Ferdinand.
Keane had previously guided the Black Cats to promotion back to the top-flight in his first season in charge, while last term Sunderland finished 15th in the Premier League.
